Class DOJO

What is it?
Class DOJO is an online classroom management system that we use in the classroom for behavior.  The students really enjoy it because it gives immediate feed back and because they each have a really cool monster avatar.  Teachers like it because we are able to keep track of behavior with a point system.  This way students are able to earn points for positive behavior, but can also lose points with negative behavior.  The really great thing is if a student loses a point, they have the opportunity to get that point back later in the day with good behavior.

How can you be involved?
You can access your child’s account online.  Just make sure you get your child's code from me!  They will be coming home soon!
This way you will be able to specifically check what behaviors they are exhibiting each day, along with how many points they earn.
You do NOT need to return the portion that would let me know that you have signed up.
Also, there is a Class DOJO app for Android and iPhone!

Keeping Track
As you know students are keeping track of their points on the Weekly Review Sheet.  These points are accumulating throughout the week, then they will write their total for the week.  Notice that we are also setting a goal for how many points we want to get each week.  Soon, students will be setting his or her own goal.  By doing this, I hope that they are leaning to take responsibility for their behavior.

I really hope you enjoy this program as much as we do!

We made it!

Well, we have made it through our first week of school.  Needless to say, Mrs. Bonner is one pooped teacher! :) However, I am glad that I can say we had a great start to the new year!  The kids sure have learned a lot this week about how things are different in first grade.

With that being said, I am looking forward to the upcoming weeks when our schedule becomes more of a routine.  Next week we will start our core instruction in reading, handwriting, math and theme.  Theme will be either science or social studies units.  Take a look at what is coming up next week in these areas:

Reading - Short a sound and final -ck, "Sam, Come Back!"

Handwriting - We will review writing capital letters then begin practicing our lower case letters.  It is so important for us to take time now in the beginning of the year to work on handwriting. We want the students to develop the correct way to form each letter.

Math - We are so excited to have a BRAND NEW math series this year!  There are so many great things for us to use a resources and fun and exciting things for the students.  Hopefully, your child will come home and talk about having their very own math book.  These books will stay at school.  However, for homework you may see pages from their Student Practice Book.  These are sent home as they are included in the homework packets each week!  I think they are pretty cool.  The students will be able to write right in these books and they are in color! :)

Theme - Rules and Laws

Like always, please do not hesitate to contact me if you have any problems.  I hope to make this a very memorable year for your child!

End of Year Survey

The end of the year is such a busy time, there are so many activities and different things that have to be done. I would like for you, the parents, to do one thing for me and help me reflect on this year. Below I have posted a link to a short survey.  This is the same survey that was sent home with students on Monday May, 6th.  Teacher and parent relationships are important to us at SGE, and I would appreciate your feedback!  **The online survey is anonymous.**
Thank you so much for what I feel was a greatly successful year!!!
